Wondering......

OK so I just finished reading a book called, 'Food Inc.'
Food, Inc: how industrial food is making us sicker, fatter, and…
I'm usually not one who believes everything I read, but it has me wondering......
Also, I was just browsing a blog and came across a couple sites that has me wondering again.......
One website (which is run by a natural skin care product line) lists 12 ingredients that are purportedly cancer-causing ingredients. Click here to see the list. So, go take a look at your stuff. Can you afford products that are natural and don't have these things? Now, there is also linked on this blog post that I read, a place where you can enter in your particular skin care product, shampoo, whatever and find out how toxic your your product is. I don't know anything about the organization that manages this website but I was curious and wondered......... Click here to visit the website. Put in one of your products you use and see what it says. I put in my conditioner I use......
The results: a 5 for moderate hazard. Allergy, immunotoxicity, and other toxicity concerns including occupational hazard concerns. Yet it had a 77% data gap.
So I tried a lotion I sometimes use......
The results: a 6 for moderate hazard. Similar to above and a 78% data gap. Here's what the website says about data gaps: 'The "data gap" rating is a measure of how much is unknown about an ingredient. Not all ingredients have the same amount of safety data. For example, some ingredients may appear to have low hazards, but this may be due to the fact that they have not have been studied or assessed completely. Other ingredients may appear to have low hazards and have been thoroughly studied or assessed. This score helps differentiate between ingredients and products that have been studied to different degrees.'

So now what? How should I interpret that? Should I just err on the side of caution? Is this some vast left-wing conspiracy? Any thoughts or experiences from anyone?
