Today was another day like yesterday. We were woken up to be told to get to the hospital. This time Maeve was being life-flighted to Primary Children's Hospital. We get to the hospital in time to see her loaded up and taken out to the helicopter. Apparently she had another bad night and they thought she has an obstructed bowel or twisted bowel and may need surgery. So, we all go down to SLC. Darren and I spent the day with her and saw her go through various tests. She had a barium enema that they X-rayed. Her lower large intestine and colon were clean and good. Later, another X-ray was done and it showed that the obstruction they saw this morning was smaller and had moved and that her stomach was no longer distended. Essentially, her condition (as diagramed by an X-ray) had improved. Then we did a contrast X-ray of her esophagus, stomach and small intestine. They were all good and things moved great except her esophagus. It seems that we're back to the original diagnosis of reflux. So, the next step is that they won't feed her today, but start her on Zantac tonight or tomorrow morning and try and feed her then. See if she can keep food down. Everyone is hopeful and feels confident in her recovery. If she can keep food down for 48 hours, they'll send her home. So, Darren and I are happy that there's no surgery and that we can treat this with a little medication and patience.
Thanks everyone for your calls and your prayers. We really appreciate it.
